Thursday Morning Riddle

I was co-star to Tom when he floated ashore;
Talked to Tim through a fence; and penned Fences, what’s more;
I distinctly disputed the yellowcake lore;
And I made fourteen points that concluded a war.

Who am I?

    WILSON!!!

  2. Andrew Says:

    Wilson! (damn you, Brian.)

    I got this after 1.5 sentences. I like these much better than Sir Francis Bacon.

    This was a great one! I figured it out, of course, from the theatre and film references. For people like me who get it based on a couple of clues, can you do that great thing you do when you clarify each of the references? I get the yellowcake one (Joe), and Fences (August) and Tom (Castaway) but I’m a little shaky on the rest….

    WILSON is correct! Congratulations, Brian! And thanks to all for playing.

    Line 1: In the movie Castaway, Tom Hanks does his island scenes alone, and talks to a volleyball named Wilson.

    Line 2: On the TV show Home Improvement, Tim talks to a neighbor named Wilson, who we only ever see on the other side of a fence. The Pulitzer winning play Fences was written by August Wilson.

    Line 3: Ambassador Joe Wilson wrote a NY Times article debunking the claim made by President Bush in a State of the Union address that Saddam Hussein had sought yellowcake uranium from Africa.

    Line 4: President Woodrow Wilson set out Fourteen Points which he believed were necessary to maintain peace in Europe following World War I.
