Well, I tried. Let's chalk it up to two countries divided by a common language and leave it at that.

The last line refers to Quizbowl.

You tease - plate for the first - soup, roses. pudding and fruit only in a bowl (and maybe humble pie).
You call that football?
At leas you've got the leather in the direction of willow right now!
Last one has me stumped!

(Strange thing culture isn't it!)

A modified version for our friends across the pond:

I'm the dish for the bangers and mash that you chose;
When I'm super at football, America goes;
I'm a skill honed in cricket, so unbend your nose;
And a trivia contest where teams can oppose.

It's all in the elbow - a bowl is a bowl, a throw is not cricket!
If you need to ask that sort of question, you (huff, Puff,) just don't know how to bat straight!

And throwing is not throwing - it is chucking! (Snort, and self satisfaction)

(Try Wiki - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bowling_(cricket)

which, if you can understand, you will be allowed to explain to the Pakistani cricket team's bowlers who don't seem to know the rules! - mind you, the English batsman who has just caused a furore amongst bowlers by unsportsmanlike jumping around and changing sides - not a gentleman - is no model for the colonies to follow!)

It appears we have a bit of a sticky wicket.

I meant no offense, but based on this picture from Wikipedia, bowling in cricket looks a lot like what we Yanks call a throw.

But I'll be the first to admit that we Americans don't know cricket at all, so if you'd like to explain what a bowl is in cricket, I'll be happy to write an alternate line for the riddle.
