The Value of Blogging

I gave a full-day workshop today on the value of blogging in the literacy classroom for school-based literacy coaches and technology coaches from across the city, and I never once mentioned that I had my own blog. I don’t want to be annoying “Hey, you gotta read my blog” guy.

But if I never tell anyone about the blog, then who will come and watch my postings of grainy Animaniacs cartoons from the mid-’90’s?

You know, sometimes, you do have to be annoying “hey check out my blog” guy. I found that if I didn’t do that, I really wouldn’t have had the hordes of visitors I get. Of course, hordes is an over-statement. Find your niche and people will come…and list your blog with some directories.

BUT, it looks like you’re on the right track already… keep it coming! :D

Ro! Thanks for visiting, and leaving my first comment.

Okay, I guess it’s time to go public now.

Hey Bill. The blogg was a great idea. Also, I would have loved to be there to see that workshop since I’m doing some coaching this year at the school. Sounds very interesting.

Hey Kelly! Thanks for stopping by.

The general idea is that students publish their writing to a private online blog that is created and moderated by the teacher, and then use the comments feature (like this one) to give feedback to one another about their writing.

Blogs can also be used by the teacher earlier in the process to provide online resources to students as well as a forum for discussing those sources, but that was another workshop.
