Conundrum: Picnic

Another new weekly feature, which means that you can now waste valuable work time at Shakespeare Teacher five days a week!

This week, I’m having a picnic. I’m putting together my guest list based on one simple rule.

  • I’m inviting DANTE, but not PETRARCH.
  • I’m inviting GALILEO, but not COPERNICUS.
  • I’m inviting REMBRANDT, but not PICASSO.
  • I’m inviting NAPOLEON, but not ROBESPIERRE.
  • I’m inviting PENN, but not TELLER.
  • I’m inviting KERMIT THE FROG, but not MISS PIGGY.
  • I’m inviting QUEEN ELIZABETH II, but not PRESIDENT BUSH.
  • I’m inviting LAVERNE & SHIRLEY, but not CAGNEY & LACEY.

Have you figured out the rule? If so, please don’t post it. Just post one or two additions to the list to show us you got it, and to give an extra hint to later solvers.

UPDATE: The solution is now posted in the comments.

Oh, good one! That fits the rule, yes.

And always nice to hear from a fellow Shakespeare teacher and blogger as well.

I enjoyed reading your blog a great deal and expect to become a regular visitor.

Dude, I need to start waking up earlier; I will be inviting CARL, but not MASTER SHAKE.

  5. Bill Says:

Honestly, I had to look that one up. But yes, I think it does fit the rule.

    So whats the answer??

  7. Bill Says:

    Good point. Thanks, Oprah.

I’ll add the answer here in the comments section on Tuesday when I post the new Conundrum. In the meantime, I’d like to leave it open for a little while longer and invite solvers to add to the list. I’ll add a few more as well.

    • I’m inviting MICHELANGELO, but not RODIN.
    • I’m inviting SONNY & CHER, but not SIMON & GARFUNKEL.
    • I’m inviting PRINCESS LEIA, but not QUEEN AMIDALA.
    • I’m inviting LENNY, but not SQUIGGY.
    • I’m inviting SIMON, RANDY, and PAULA, but SEACREST out!

Okay, that should do for now. Solvers are welcome to continue to add to the list, and I’ll post the rule here on Tuesday morning.

    Thanks for visiting!
