A New Look

Okay, I’m playing around with a new look for the site (finally!) and I wanted to get some reader input before committing to anything. I have a few specific questions for readers of this site:

  1. Do you like the way the site looks now, compared to the old look?
  2. Is it easier or harder to read than the old style?
  3. Is there anything you were able to do in the old style that you can no longer do?
  4. Is anything about this style distracting or confusing?
  5. Should I keep it how it is, or put it back how it used to be?

It’s the age-old debate of form vs. function, but I have to say that the site looks a lot more like a ShakespeareTeacher.com than the old style, which looked more like SomeGuysWebsiteIDontCareAbout.org.* Also, I like that there’s a calendar, which I haven’t had before.

Anyway, let’s try this out for a while and see how it goes.

*SomeGuysWebsiteIDontCareAbout.com was taken.

I think the site looks great. One thing to improve is making the font a little darker. It’s a little more difficult to read. Good job bro!

  2. Bill Says:

    Thanks, sis!

I should mention that I didn’t create this design. This guy did, and generously made it available to the public. I’ve been making modifications, but since I don’t really know how to do it, it’s been a lot of trial and error. I did make the Shakespeare graphic, though.

I agree that the font needs to be darker, but I haven’t been able to figure out how to do it yet. Right now, if you hover over the text you want to read, it gets darker, but that’s a pain.

After a bit of tinkering, I was able to make the blog title darker (it had been the same color as the text) so there’s hope.

  3. Bill Says:

Well, that’s more like it. Let’s hear it for trial and error.

Not only did I make the text darker, I was also able to make it a little bigger.

It’s actually legible now, a feature I always appreciate in a blog.

It’s a gorgeous look. Well done.

  5. Bill Says:

Thanks! I really like the new look, though it’s going to take some getting used to.

I’m still playing around with the design, so feedback is welcome.

I’ve now made the Shakespeare graphic thinner so it doesn’t push the first post halfway down the page, and I created a new title banner.

  6. Bill Says:

Okay, now the title banner is a clickable link. If you click on it from anywhere on the site, it will return you to the main page.

  7. DeLisa Says:

I luuuuvvvvv the new title font….”Shakespeare Teacher” looks soooo beautiful….

  8. Bill Says:

DeLisa, thanks! I really like the way that came out, too.

  9. Annalisa Says:

Looks GORGEOUS! I have noticed, though, that navigation is a bit cumbersome/sluggish, primarily on the home page…I’m thinking this might be due to the greatly enhanced graphic design of the pages, but I’m no pro…

  10. Bill Says:

Okay, and you’re actually the second person to tell me that. Right now, I don’t know how to fix it, other than putting the site back to the way it was. I’ll look into it, though, since I know how frustrating it can be to wait for a page to load.

If anyone has any suggestions, or knows what might be causing this, please let me know.
