Thursday Morning Riddle

On computers, I’m documents folders possess,
But in real life, the folder, preventing a mess;
I’m a column for soldiers, or pieces in chess;
And a tool that you’d use to remove the excess.

Who am I?

    Dear Blog Master,

    Please consider allowing our site, the Internet Shakespeare Editions, to have a link to your Blog: http://blog.shakespearegeek.com/

    You will find our home page at: .

    Our site contains over 3000 pages ranging from scholarly, fully annotated texts of Shakespeare’s plays to multimedia explorations of the context of Shakespeare’s life and works, and records of his plays in performance.

    Our goal is to broaden the appreciation of Shakespeare’s work in a variety of audiences: scholars, students, actors, teachers and the general reader. In addition to the texts of the plays and poems, our site covers such topics as Shakespeare’s personal history, the political, social and religious contexts of his society, the dramatic and literary traditions that abounded in Shakespeare’s time, and the music he would have encountered. There is also an extensive reference section, including maps, a detailed chronology, thorough bibliographies, links to academic and non-academic literature and the contemporary theatre community.

    We have recently made a new addition to the links portion of the website to include fun and interesting Shakespearean Blogs. We have taken a particular interest in your blog and would like to add it to our links section. Feel free to review our website.

    Thank you for considering our request. We look forward to your reply.

    Sincerely,

    Dear Blog Master,

    Pardon my mistake, I have been sending link requests all day, I meant to include your blog address and not Shakespeare Geeks. I hope that this error does not effect your approval of our proposition. Thanks again for your time.

    Well, okay, but only because you followed the rules and called me Blog Master. Would it kill the rest of you?

    Actually, I wrote him back and told him it would be an honor. I’m a long-time fan of the site. And on the Internet, being linked to is the sincerest form of flattery.

    Even though it was clearly the Shakespeare Geek he really wanted. Oh, Duane, how long must I live in your shadow?
