By the way, did you know that Henry VIII agreed to marry his fourth wife, Anne of Cleves, without meeting her, based only on a portrait he had had painted by Hans Holbein the Younger. That’s hot.

I liked this episode, but I’m not really sure how much of the history I’m supposed to come into the show knowing. Sometimes, there will be a new character introduced with great emphasis, and I wonder if I’m supposed to already know who it is. When Wolsey and More are talking about whether More will support the King’s divorce, are we already supposed to know how More meets his demise? When Henry tells Anne that he loves her neck, are we supposed to know how she meets hers? But then other events that happen are supposed to be a surprise.
Perhaps we’re told how much we’re supposed to know in the opening credits. “You think you know a story, but you only know how it ends. To get to the heart of the story, you have to go back to the…”
Back to the what? Six weeks in and they couldn’t fix that? But I digress.
So I’m only expected to know how the story ends. How does the story end? The story of the Tudors ends in 1603. Or is the end of the story Henry’s death? Or is the birth of Edward the end of the story?
The one thing that we did learn from this episode is that being the King’s brother-in-law can be a very good thing, as long as it’s his idea.
