Question of the Week

Now that we’ve had a few years to think it over…

Wasn’t the whole “Freedom Fries” episode just a little silly?

I said it then, I say it now:

Quelque fois, les Americains sont vraiment fous.

Only if you don’t believe in Freedom.

It was silly THEN. I have a French Bulldog (and had, at the time), and a Cobble Hill yuppie-jerk stopped me on the street one evening and said, “Cute dog – what breed is he?” When I answered, he said (and without missing a beat!), “Oh…you mean a FREEDOM Bulldog.”

    I just kept walking.

I agree it was silly then (and that’s a great story) but it was so frustrating at the time because the morons who were trying to boycott the French were being taken so much more seriously in the media than the millions of people desperately trying to stop the war. They had their patriotism challenged at every turn, while Freedom Fries were being dished out daily in the congressional cafeteria.

Now that public opinion seems to have turned, it seemed like a good time to point it out. The French also tried to stop the war.
