“stuff files using Stuffit” was the one that threw me slightly. I’m not familiar with Stuffit.

Stuffit compresses files on your computer. They will then take up less space on your hard drive, though you can’t use them in that format.
When you want to access them again, you can use another application called Stuffit Expander to restore your files to their previous size and utility.
It’s useful for when you want to archive files that you don’t need anymore but don’t want to delete entirely. It was also very useful for downloading files during the dial-up days. You could just download the smaller stuffed file and then expand it after the download completed.
