Thursday Morning Riddle

I can lift up a bag; I can open a gate;
I’m a nickname on Twitter; a grip for a weight;
I’m to cope when emotional; manipulate;
And to manage the tasks that you find on your plate.

Who am I?

UPDATE: Riddle solved by both Asher and Neel Mehta. See comments for answer and explanation.

  1. Asher Says:

    HANDLE

  2. Neel Mehta Says:

    “You can’t HANDLE the truth!”

  3. Bill Says:

    HANDLE is correct. Way to go, Neel Mehta!

    Asher’s comment was inexplicably flagged as spam, and it was not visible when Neel posted his answer. I am therefore giving them both a name check this week.

    And way to go, Asher!

  5. Neel Mehta Says:

    When I saw the dual credit, I assumed that there must have been two different answers to this riddle, and I only got one of them. That’s not a challenge, by the way, though now that I’ve planted the idea…

    Congrats to Asher, and apologies for stepping on your toes. I should’ve suspected some sort of blog glitch; I never get here on time.

  6. Bill Says:

    Sometimes the riddle will stay up for a while unsolved. There are only really five of you that will come here on Thursdays unprompted (you two, Trish, Rebecca, and Bronx Richie), so feel free to answer when you see the chance. New riddles are generally posted at 10am (New York time). I’m sure Asher, like me, enjoys seeing a range of voices participating in the game.

    I did actually do a riddle with two answers once, but it was harder than it looked and I’m unlikely to do it again unless something really strong occurs to me.

    Thanks, Bill and Neel. It certainly was an unusual glitch. Now that it’s over I’m reminded of this classic comedic snippet of dialogue:
    “Listen, don’t mention the war.
    I mentioned it once, but I think I got away with it all right.
    So, it’s all forgotten now and let’s hear no more about it”
