Six Degrees of Sir Francis Bacon: Jessica Alba

First, read the rules of the game.

For some reason, this week saw an unprecedented number of visitors to the blog. It seems that there was a combination of words that matched common search terms. People may have come here for a variety of reasons, but some chose to stay, and I’m glad they did. I’m about to reach 7,000 hits, which last week seemed like a goal to shoot for by the end of December.

But while I’m glad for all of the new traffic, I’m not going to suddenly adjust the content of the blog to pander to the masses in a pathetic attempt to snag the random passerby. That’s not what this blog is about.

Anyway, this week’s challenge is actress Jessica Alba.

Jessica Alba has managed to maintain a professional career at a young age, without getting herself into trouble, unlike such stars as Vanessa Hudgens, Lindsay Lohan, or Britney Spears. Perhaps one day we will see her playing Texas Hold ‘Em on television, or on Dancing with the Stars. If I had to invest in the stock market of the famous, I’d go with the World Series champ of celebrities, Jessica Alba.

Well, that ought to do it.

Ringtones!

Okay, I’m done now.

I actually was able to link Jessica Alba to Sir Francis Bacon in six degrees or fewer, though that shouldn’t stop you from posting a longer response, or looking for a shorter one. Entries will be accepted until midnight on Thursday, November 1.

Good luck!

And congratulations to Neel Mehta for winning last week’s challenge by linking Sir Karl Popper to Sir Francis Bacon in three degrees:

Sir Karl Popper > Bertrand Russell > Georg Cantor > Sir Francis Bacon

Sir Karl Popper addressed the problem of induction in a way that was commented on by Bertrand Russell, who studied the work of Georg Cantor, who believed in the Shakespearean authorship of Sir Francis Bacon.

  1. Neel Mehta Says:

I was stunned to learn that Jessica Alba has not studied the work of Georg Cantor.

My first try yielded 6 steps:

Jessica Alba > James Cameron > Orson Scott Card > Charles Dickens > William Shakespeare > Sir Francis Bacon

There’s gotta be a shorter connection than that.

  2. Neel Mehta Says:

Well, 5 steps. There are 6 names up there.

Congrats on passing 7,000 visitors. Not too shabby.

  3. Bill Says:

Thanks for the congrats on 7,000. I’m expecting the contents of this post to double that by early evening.

Your chain is good and, yes, it counts as five degrees.

The “check” solution I found (which I always do before posting a challenge to make sure it can be done in at most six degrees) was four degrees, and there may be an even shorter path than that.

    Good luck!

OK this is my first try at this:
    Jessica Alba>Willian H Macey>Felicity Huffman > Helen Mirren > Henry VI>Shakesphere> Francis Bacon

    Mike

  5. UnixMan1960 Says:

    Woo How is this

Jessica Alba>Hugh Hefner>Shakesphere>Bacon that has gotta be good

  6. Bill Says:

Nice work, UnixMan! That’s three degrees. I think that’s probably going to stand up.

  7. UnixMan1960 Says:

Thanks I think I am going to enjoy this game it looks like fun. I realised in my first go at it that Willian H Macey was redundant as Felicity Huffman is actually mentioned on the start page.

I was surprised that Hefner would have a shakesphere link. On the other hand as soon as I saw Mirren I knew it would be close to getting there as well.

    UnixMan aka Mike

    Neel Mehta

Just for you I went this way with James Cameron

Jessica Alba > James Cameron > Kate Winslet > Hamlet ( or if you want Ophelia) > Shakesphere > Bacon same result as you I could not see a faster link with James

  9. Bill Says:

I was able to link through James Cameron in four: Jessica Alba > James Cameron > Leonardo DiCaprio > William Shakespeare > Sir Francis Bacon.

My original “check” solution was this: Jessica Alba > Michael Caine > SIr Laurence Olivier > William Shakespeare > Sir Francis Bacon.

Current leader is UnixMan (aka Mike) with three degrees.
